In Which I Have More Thoughts, Olympic & Otherwise

First, the Olympic thoughts:

  • What’s with the unsportsman like conduct? First, the Swede wrestler throws away his bronze medal (and consequently gets stripped of his medal for unbecoming conduct). Then Usain Bolt grandstands around the stadium when he wins the 100m and 200m races, earing the ire of not only US coaches and commentators, but other countries as well. And the President of the IOC called him out about it as well.
  • Why all the hulabaloo about the US woman basketball player who went to play for Russia? She wanted to play in the Olympics. She didn’t make the US Olympic basketball team so she went to play for a country that would take her. I don’t see the problem. Do you know how many athletese from other countries don’t make their teams so they come to the US and play for us? Hell, do you know how many athletes train in the US but participate in the Olympics under their countries’ flags?
  • What’s the deal with Equestrian? First of all, why is it being held in Hong Kong and not Beijing? Some sort of agricultural restriction? Second of all, how the hell do 4 horses get busted for doping? Did the riders not think that the horses (who do ALL the work, by the way) wouldn’t get tested? After all, they are athletes. They have their own passports and everything.
  • Seriously, what the hell is wrong with NBC? The Hype Machine has moved on from Michael Phelps and has done a couple of stories now on the Lopez Family, who are participating in Tae Kwon Do. Oldest brother is the coach, 2nd brother has won 4 Worlds and 2 Olympic Golds. Younger sister and youngest brother are now joining 2 older brothers at this Olympic games. Good story, right? So why isn’t NBC showing Tae Kwan Do in primetime? Hell, why not broadcast any of the bouts on any of the other stations NBC is using? Oh no. You can only catch Tae Kwon Do online.
  • My thoughts on the Chinese women gymnasts and their ages. Firstly, Asian women tend to look younger than their Western counterparts. Secondly, it’s widely known that gymnasts tend to stunt their growth because of their rigorous training regime and diet. These girls have no boobs and don’t get periods. Thirdly, these girls are already short so that makes them look younger. So I don’t necessarily agree with the US Commentators who sit there, judgementally, saying “We know what 16 looks like. Does she look 16?” Whatever. Some of the European girls don’t look older than 16 yet are. Having said that, I do believe China may have fudged on some of those girls’ ages.
  • I’ve decided I can’t watch the 10m platform Diving event. I watched the semifinals today and everytime someone dived, my stomach was in my throat.

Okay. Now on to non-Olympic thoughts:

  • Geico needs to get rid of the Cavemen. They can keep the gekko. He’s still cute and he’s out there trying to help people. The Cavemen are just bitter and need to get over themselves.
  • I’m very excited for the return of Fall TV once the Olympics are over.
  • You know what movie I’m never ever going to see, no matter what? Not even on DVD? Mirrors, with Keifer Sutherland. Hells No!!! Not because I think the movie is bad or because it’s super scary. It’s my fear of mirrors. The only mirror I have in my apartment is in my bathroom. And I can’t go into my bathroom unless the light is on because Bloody Mary lives in the bathroom mirror. And I think we’ve already established my fear of Bloody Mary.

And that’s it. I’m going to go eat dinner now.

New libsecondlife cubes

Below is an embedded SVG version of the cubes logo. If you can’t see it your browser sucks. View PNG version

The original cubes were somewhat skewed to one side and hard to edit because they were taken directly from a screenshot of 3 stacked cubed in Second Life.

The new cubes were created in Adobe Illustrator so they can be scaled to any size big or small with no real loss of quality. Vectors are wonderful things. Next step, T-shirts.

For those who have not seen the original cubes before, here they are
